NAFDAC and Ogun State Police collaborate on sachet alcohol ban enforcement
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control NAFDAC and the Ogun State Police Command are strengthening their cooperation to enforce regulations on alcoholic drinks, particularly the ban on sachet and PET bottle alcohol below 200ml. This initiative aims to protect public health and reduce the harmful effects of easy access to cheap alcohol, especially among children and young people. Mr. Akinwale Fagoroye, the State Coordinator of NAFDAC Ogun Office 1, led a delegation to meet with Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters. The enforcement, which began in Abeokuta, will expand across the state until full compliance is achieved. NAFDAC teams are conducting checks at various locations, and the agency is empowered to act against non-compliant products and facilities. Commissioner Ojajuni assured NAFDAC of continued police support, stating that both agencies will work within their mandates to ensure compliance with the law and protect residents. He also noted that the police are enforcing the Liquor Act and other relevant laws to prevent unlawful sales and distribution of alcoholic drinks and curb activities endangering public safety. Manufacturers, distributors, sellers, and consumers are urged to comply with regulations and report illegal activities or unsafe products.
