Judicial pool issues discharge order for businessman Abo Amir Mbacké, Madiambal Diagne calls it a new defeat for Sonko
Journalist Madiambal Diagne announced on X that the investigating judge of the Financial Judicial Pool issued a discharge order on September 1, 2026, in favor of businessman Abo Amir Mbacké. Diagne presented this decision as a new judicial setback for Ousmane Sonko, whom he accused of having "persecuted" Mbacké. Abo Mbacké, also known as "Amir Abo" and head of Stam Global Business, was placed under arrest warrant in late November 2024 by the Financial Judicial Pool for fraud and money laundering. The case garnered significant attention, as Mbacké was accused of presenting himself as both a special advisor to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Ben Salmane and a close associate of then-Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to defraud several complainants. These included a businesswoman who lost 100 million FCFA based on a fake Treasury check, and architect Pierre Goudiaby Atépa. Sonko, through his lawyer Me Bamba Cissé, had joined the civil proceedings in this case, denying any connection to Amir Abo. Mbacké eventually reimbursed part of the disputed sums, which worked in his favor. In May 2025, the Supreme Court rejected the prosecutor general's appeal and upheld Mbacké's provisional release, which had been decided by the Financial Indictment Chamber. If confirmed, this discharge order would conclude the investigation against Abo Mbacké without referral to a trial court, representing the most favorable outcome for an accused person at the end of a judicial inquiry.
