Senegalese government unveils results of Social Stability Pact one year after its launch

The Senegalese government presented an update on the Social Stability Pact, one year after its implementation. Minister and government spokesperson, Marie Rose Khady Faye, stated that this accountability exercise is part of a transparency initiative established since the last cabinet reshuffle. The Minister of Public Service, Olivier Boucal, detailed the pact's structure, which was developed inclusively with the state, worker organizations, and employers. It includes 87 commitments, with 10 focusing on the work environment, 15 on economic and social policy, and 21 on improving working conditions. There are also sectoral commitments: 5 in education, 6 in higher education, 7 in health, 2 in local authorities, 3 in culture, and 1 in transport, alongside 15 transversal commitments to improve administration. The three-year pact is based on 50 activities centered on social dialogue, labor law, social protection, and public service quality, with a focus on the informal sector. Key achievements highlighted include the establishment of steering and social dialogue bodies, salary increases in some sectors domestic workers, hospitality, and the expansion of social protection to artisans and small taxpayers, as well as pension system reforms. The government announced the recruitment of 2,527 teachers, 2,500 health agents, and 500 research-professors.
