Rosgeologia begins search for underground water in Libya's Sahara Desert

This initiative aims to enhance Libya's water infrastructure, as the country currently relies on non-renewable fossil water pumped from deep aquifers for over 70% of its population. Russian Natural Resources Minister Aleksandr Kozlov confirmed the project, stating that Rosgeologia is employing advanced geological mapping and exploration techniques to locate deep aquifers. This exploration is considered a potential alternative or supplement to stabilize Libya's water infrastructure, especially given that Libya is a water-stressed nation with no permanent natural rivers.

The project aligns with Libya's recent commitment to the Tripoli Declaration, alongside Algeria and Tunisia, for the management of the North-Western Sahara Aquifer System.
