National Youth Parliament 2026 launches with focus on AI and food security
The fifth edition of the National Youth Parliament 2026 launched on Friday, August 28, at the National Assembly, with Prime Minister Dr. Navin Ramgoolam and National Assembly Speaker Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra in attendance, alongside several ministers and the Speaker of the Seychelles National Assembly. Prime Minister Ramgoolam addressed the young participants, calling them "future leaders" and emphasizing that the experience would enhance their understanding of parliamentary operations, procedures, and democratic mechanisms. This year's program includes two key motions. The first focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence as a strategic driver for the Mauritian economy, aiming to exploit its economic, technological, and innovative potential with a skilled national workforce. The second motion addresses strengthening national food security through strategically reducing reliance on food imports, developing sustainable and climate-resilient local agri-food production, and increasing the participation of young Mauritians across the entire agri-food value chain.
