
Inter Milan begins Serie A title defense with dominant win over Monza
Inter Milan started their Serie A title defense with a 4-1 home victory against promoted Monza. Hakan Calhanoglu scored for Inter in the sixth minute, but Monza equalized through Gustavo Varela in the 29th minute. Inter regained the lead with Piotr Zielinski's goal in the 48th minute, followed by Pio Esposito's backheel finish eight minutes later. Yann Bisseck completed the scoring in the 63rd minute. Inter coach Cristian Chivu noted the team was "a bit rusty" in the first half but regained calm after the break. Meanwhile, Napoli, last season's runners-up, defeated Genoa 2-0 with late goals from substitute Kevin De Bruyne and Antonio Vergara, giving new coach Massimiliano Allegri a winning start. Como drew 1-1 at Udinese, with Tasos Douvikas scoring the equalizer. Cagliari secured a 1-0 win against Parma. Milan and Juventus are set to begin their league seasons on Sunday.
