Ugandan nationals arrested in South Africa for alleged cross-border motorcycle smuggling
Two Ugandan nationals were arrested in Centurion, South Africa, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, by the Tshwane Metro Police Drug Unit. They are suspected of being part of a cross-border motorcycle smuggling syndicate. Officers stopped a suspicious vehicle at the N1 and Botha Avenue, finding the two men and several motorcycles and engines they could not account for. The recovered items include a black Toyota Voxy, a Honda, a Yamaha, and two Triumph motorcycle engines, with an estimated value of R880,000. The motorcycles were reported stolen in Kempton Park, Alberton, and Lyttelton. The suspects were arrested for possession of stolen motorcycles and engines, fraud, and possession of stolen property. This incident follows recent intensified operations against cross-border criminal activities, including a four-day blitz by the South African Police Service and the South African National Defence Force in Limpopo, which recovered seven suspected stolen vehicles and seized illicit cigarettes worth over R800,000 between August 13 and 16, 2026.
