
UK opens applications for 2026/27 Commonwealth Fellowship Programme for Nigerians and other Commonwealth citizens
The United Kingdom has launched applications for the 2026/27 Commonwealth Fellowship Programme, offering fully funded opportunities for mid-career professionals and university academics from Commonwealth countries, including Nigeria. The UK in Nigeria announced the opening on its X handle, urging eligible candidates to apply before the August 25, 2026 deadline. The program includes Commonwealth Professional Fellowships for mid-career professionals and Commonwealth Academic Fellowships for university academic staff holding a PhD. Approximately 40 fellowships are planned, covering six development themes such as science and technology for development, improving population health, and strengthening peace and governance. Professional Fellowship applicants need at least five years of relevant work experience, while Academic Fellowship applicants must hold a PhD and be employed by a university in a Commonwealth country outside the UK. Applicants must be citizens of, or have refugee status in, an eligible Commonwealth country, be permanently resident there, and be employed by an organization they will return to. They must provide at least two references, including one from their current employer, and not have undertaken a Commonwealth Fellowship within the previous five years.
