Pitso Mosimane confirmed as South Africa coach after 24-day delay
Pitso Mosimane has been confirmed as the new coach of South Africa, 24 days after his appointment was approved by the national football association. Mosimane succeeds Hugo Broos, who retired after leading South Africa to the World Cup knockout stages. Mosimane, 62, has 23 days to prepare the national team for their first 2027 Africa Cup of Nations AFCON qualifier against Guinea. This marks Mosimane's second tenure with Bafana Bafana, following an unsuccessful two-year period starting in 2010, during which the team failed to qualify for the 2012 AFCON. At club level, Mosimane achieved significant success, winning the CAF Champions League once with Mamelodi Sundowns and twice with Al Ahly, in addition to three CAF Super Cup titles. His six titles make him the most successful black coach in CAF club competitions. His new contract with South Africa extends until the 2030 World Cup.
