APC governors pledge support for President Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027
Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, announced that all All Progressives Congress APC governors are united in their support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election in 2027. Uzodimma stated that the responsibility for delivering the 2027 election rests with governors at the subnational level. This declaration followed a meeting between President Tinubu and APC governors in Abuja, held after the 160th National Economic Council meeting. The discussions covered governance, focusing on reducing the cost of living, transportation costs, and ensuring food security, as well as politics. Uzodimma confirmed that President Tinubu briefed the governors on the formation of the Presidential Campaign Council, which was met with total agreement. He emphasized that governors are expected to deliver their states and will lead campaign efforts. Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, highlighted President Tinubu's focus on gas utilization, particularly in the area of Compressed Natural Gas CNG, and stressed the President's emphasis on party unity, national unity, and poverty reduction. Sule reiterated that elections are state-level affairs, with governors taking the lead in campaigns. The meeting occurred shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission officially commenced campaigns for the 2027 general election on August 19, 2026, and followed the release of the APC's Presidential Campaign Council list on August 22, 2026.
