President Tinubu cautions against divisive tactics ahead of 2027 elections, APC rejects violence and misinformation

Speaking in Abuja during the signing of the Peace Accord, where he was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, President Tinubu emphasized that while political disagreements are normal in a democracy, campaign activities must not undermine national unity or social stability. He urged stakeholders to focus campaigns on constructive debate, policies, and programs that foster national development and improve citizens' welfare. President Tinubu reaffirmed his and the All Progressives Congress's commitment to the agreement, stating that the governing party opposes electoral violence, hate speech, disinformation, and digital manipulation, particularly via social media and artificial intelligence platforms.

He stressed that political contests should not be treated as a "do-or-die" affair and praised the National Peace Committee, chaired by former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar, for its ongoing efforts in organizing peace pacts since 2014. The President also highlighted improvements in election transparency and management by the Independent National Electoral Commission, citing recent electoral reforms and off-season governorship elections as evidence of growing voter confidence.
