Dr Kofi Amoah urges President Mahama to act on 'dumsor' corruption scandal after US conviction

Berko was convicted in the United States for bribery and money laundering related to a Ghanaian power project, which Dr Amoah believes provides critical evidence for Ghana to pursue those involved locally. Dr Amoah urged President Mahama to direct the Attorney-General to investigate and hold accountable Ghanaian officials and parliamentarians allegedly implicated in the scheme. He highlighted that the US judicial process, with UK cooperation, has already provided information that could help identify those on the Ghanaian side. Dr Amoah emphasized that this presents a unique opportunity for President Mahama to demonstrate a genuine commitment to fighting corruption, especially given his anti-corruption campaign and the ORAL initiative. He noted that the alleged Ghanaian officials involved in the 'dumsor' corruption case appear to be largely associated with the current governing political party, making this a crucial moment to show whether the anti-corruption stance is principled or politically selective. Dr Amoah stressed that corruption must not be allowed to continue and that Ghana must act to cleanse itself for national progress.
