Former minister Moagi challenges P4.7 million corruption case, citing insufficient evidence
Former minister Lefoko Moagi has argued that the State has not established a case against him in a P4.7 million corruption syndicate. Prosecutors allege that around April 17, 2024, Moagi accepted P4.7 million from New Energy Company Pty Ltd, via Wisecreatives Investments Pty Ltd, as a reward for issuing prospecting licenses in Gantsi, Tsabong, and Tutume to New Energy. Moagi faces two counts of corruption and money laundering. His attorney, Tengo Rubadiri, stated in a no case to answer application that the prosecution failed to provide evidence that the money channeled through Wisecreatives was a reward for granting eight licenses. Rubadiri's argument relied on a warn-and-caution statement from Zheng Li, the sole director and shareholder of Wisecreatives, who confirmed he was the only person who could explain transactions in the company's bank account, which were recorded as loans.
