Plateau governor visits deadly attack scene, promises tighter security

The attack occurred on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, and the governor visited on Thursday to commiserate with residents and victims' families. Mutfwang described the attack as "barbaric, senseless and unacceptable," assuring residents that his administration would strengthen security measures. He stated that some arrests have been made and the matter would be followed to its conclusion.

The governor emphasized that the killing of innocent residents challenged the government's commitment to protecting lives and property, promising to adopt additional strategies and strengthen existing security measures. He also mentioned that the attack happened shortly after a security review with the new General Officer Commanding, 3 Division, Nigerian Army. Mutfwang assured residents they would remain on their land and visited the paramount ruler of Mangu, the Mishkagham Mwaghavul, Da John Putmang Hirse, to express sympathy.

Hirse described the attack as "senseless and deliberate," noting the victims were asleep. The traditional ruler affirmed that the Mwaghavul people would remain peaceful and law-abiding. Mutfwang commended Plateau youths for supporting community safety efforts and urged cooperation among communities, traditional institutions, government, and security agencies to address insecurity.
