
Gabon achieves first AfroBasket U18 victory against Morocco
Gabon's U18 basketball team secured its first victory in the AfroBasket U18 tournament, defeating Morocco 67-62 on August 9 at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan. Despite trailing by 16 points early in the game, Gabon, coached by Bertrand Ondo Zogo, staged a comeback. Morocco initially led 27-15 after the first quarter. However, Gabon dominated the second quarter with a 22-6 run, taking a 37-33 lead into halftime. Morocco regained the lead in the third quarter, but Gabon ultimately secured the win by outscoring Morocco 21-12 in the final period. This win follows two previous losses for Gabon against Madagascar 65-68 and Mali 37-113. In another Group B match, Mali defeated Madagascar 53-44, finishing the group stage with three wins and securing first place.
