Pastef deputy Djiby Ciss breaks ranks with party over constitutional revision

The entrepreneur, now a parliamentarian, refused to support the reform concerning the declaration and publication of assets of high-ranking state officials. Ciss also reportedly called for the dissolution of the National Assembly by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. Elected in the legislative elections of November 17, 2024, Djiby Ciss has been a member of the Pastef parliamentary group, which holds a large majority in the Assembly, since the beginning of the 15th legislature.

His actions on Monday reveal previously less visible internal tensions within the parliamentary majority, between deputies perceived as fully supportive of the head of state and others, like Ciss, who are more critical. This position has surprised the parliamentary majority and fuels speculation about potential divisions within the ruling party, amidst existing tensions between the Executive and certain segments of the National Assembly.
