Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan returns to jail after hospital examination

A team of qualified doctors, including an ophthalmologist, cardiologist, and physician, examined Khan. The Supreme Court had ordered Khan's hospital examination within 48 hours due to health complaints. This court order also allowed him to see his family, with his sister Azma Khan visiting him in prison and being present during his medical examination.

Khan's lawyers have stated he suffers from various health conditions, including poor eyesight, and has not had access to specialist medical care. The Supreme Court emphasized its constitutional and legal obligation to safeguard the prisoner's life, health, dignity, and security, and specified an eye specialist would be involved in his treatment. Police sealed off the area around Shifa International Hospital, and the Supreme Court warned Khan's party against politicizing his hospital stay by holding press conferences outside.

Khan, who served as prime minister from 2018 to 2022, was imprisoned in August 2023 on corruption charges, which he claims are politically motivated. He faces over 100 cases, and he and his wife Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 17 years late last year. Despite his incarceration, Khan maintains a significant political presence and supporter base.
