Ousmane Sonko corrects Prime Minister Al Aminou Lo on general policy statement procedures

The Assembly's Bureau, led by Sonko, identified irregularities in the proposed schedule and method for the DPG, attributing them to a "lack of knowledge of parliamentary procedures by the Executive." The Prime Minister had communicated his availability to deliver the DPG on September 1st, which was followed by a presidential decree convening an extraordinary session for the DPG. However, the Assembly's Bureau clarified three points: first, while the extraordinary session's opening was validly decreed, the DPG date itself was not; second, the President of the Republic, not the Prime Minister, is responsible for informing the Assembly of the DPG date at least eight days in advance, a condition not met; and third, September 1st will be solely for opening the session and confirming the quorum.

The exact date for the DPG will be set later by the Conference of Presidents. This intervention highlights a procedural power dynamic, especially given Sonko's previous role as Prime Minister and his party's majority in the Assembly.
