Captain Touré criticizes Ousmane Sonko over IMF agreement and leadership style
Seydina Oumar Touré, Director General of the Agency for Proximity Security Assistance ASP and former gendarmerie officer, has defended the 1,244 billion FCFA technical and financial agreement between the government of Bassirou Diomaye Faye and the International Monetary Fund IMF. In a Facebook post, Touré criticized those opposing the agreement, making thinly veiled allusions to Ousmane Sonko, the current leader of Pastef and President of the National Assembly. Touré stated that the country was "blocked by the pride of some who confuse governing with self-glorification" over the past two years, and that these same individuals are now criticizing the solution found with the IMF to help Senegal. Without naming Sonko directly, Touré drew a comparison to Thomas Sankara, a figure often cited by Pastef leaders. He argued that a true revolutionary sacrifices for the people, not the other way around, contrasting Sankara's austerity with the use of luxury vehicles by some Senegalese officials who claim to be revolutionaries.
