Brighton defeats 10-man Aston Villa 4-0 in Premier League opener
Brighton commenced their Premier League season with a decisive 4-0 victory over Aston Villa at the Amex Stadium. The scoring began in the eighth minute when Maxim de Cuyper's shot resulted in an own goal from Victor Lindelof, followed by De Cuyper scoring Brighton's second goal ten minutes later. Jack Hinshelwood then added two goals in quick succession, bringing the score to 4-0. Aston Villa's situation worsened when Joao Gomes received a red card in the 40th minute, reducing them to ten men. Despite an early chance for Villa through Emiliano Buendia, Brighton capitalized on their opportunities. De Cuyper's shot, after a pass from Pau Torres, led to the first goal. Georginio Rutter assisted De Cuyper for the second. Hinshelwood scored his first after a cross from De Cuyper was set up by Diego Gomez, and his second came a minute later after Yasin Ayari dispossessed Gomes. The second half remained goalless, securing a dominant win for Brighton.
