Osun government urges reconciliation and warns against post-election violence

In a statement by Kolapo Alimi, the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, the government expressed condolences to victims of pre-election violence and urged healing. The government noted immediate post-election disruptions and reports of plans by some stakeholders to ignite new crises in local government councils and motor parks. It emphasized that the state needs peace for development and that any push towards violence is an affront to the Presidency and the Nigerian Constitution.

The government called on security agencies to enforce the rule of law, ensure the release of political detainees, and end perceived partisan policing. It also urged political actors to act peacefully, stating that Osun should focus on healing and building, avoiding a relapse into pre-election violence. This follows Governor Ademola Adeleke's commendation of APC governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji for advocating peace after meeting President Bola Tinubu.
