Andres Iniesta recommends Victor Osimhen to Barcelona as Robert Lewandowski's replacement
Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta has urged the Catalan club to sign Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen as the ideal replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who has departed for Chicago Fire. Iniesta, a former Spain international, believes the 2023 African Player of the Year is the right choice to lead Hansi Flick’s attack, especially since Atletico Madrid is unwilling to sell Julian Alvarez, Barcelona’s preferred target. Speaking to NTV Spor, Iniesta endorsed Osimhen, stating, "I would suggest they sign Victor Osimhen. He is a fantastic goalscorer and one of the best replacements for Robert Lewandowski." Osimhen had an impressive season with Galatasaray, helping them win the 2025/26 Super Lig title with 15 goals and five assists in 22 league appearances. He also became the fastest player to reach 50 goals for Galatasaray in 59 appearances. While Osimhen's salary demands of around €15m net per season, plus bonuses, pose a financial challenge for Barcelona, he has reportedly signaled a willingness to accept a pay cut. Galatasaray, however, is holding out for a transfer fee between €70m and €75m for the striker. Barcelona sporting director Deco continues to prioritize Alvarez, despite Atletico’s refusal to negotiate, and is also considering Dusan Vlahovic as an alternative. Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have emerged as strong contenders for Osimhen due to Barcelona's financial limitations.
