Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings assumes office as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology
Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has officially taken office as the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology following a handover ceremony on Thursday, September 3, 2026. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Lands and Natural Resources Minister, formally handed over the ministry, expressing confidence in her leadership due to her advocacy for environmental and scientific issues. Buah highlighted the ministry's progress under his tenure, including the revocation of LI 2462, which allowed mining in forest reserves, and the passage of six legislative instruments for the new Environmental Protection Agency Act, along with establishing 15 new district offices for the agency. Dr Agyeman-Rawlings thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the responsibility and commended Buah's stewardship. She emphasized the importance of science, technology, and innovation working together for development without compromising the environment. She also stressed the need for collaboration between the government and citizens to protect the environment, citing global challenges like climate change and environmental degradation. Dr Agyeman-Rawlings assured staff of a team-oriented leadership approach, focusing on achieving objectives collectively. The ceremony was attended by directors, staff, and officials of the ministry and included a moment of silence for the late Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Murtala, former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.
