Kwara police dismantle criminal networks in major operational breakthroughs
The Kwara State Police Command has reported significant operational breakthroughs in dismantling criminal networks involved in kidnapping, murder, cultism, and cattle rustling. The state Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, highlighted these successes, attributing them to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention, and community collaboration. Among the cases detailed was the July 15 attack on Wande community, where 26-year-old Shekinat Mukaila was abducted. Police arrested Aliyu Mohammed, who allegedly facilitated the kidnapping, leading to the victim's rescue. Another operation in Patigi led to the arrest of Haruna Rabiu, suspected of links to the notorious Auta Ilorin kidnapping network. In Offa, an investigation into a missing person case evolved into a homicide inquiry, resulting in the arrest of Mohammed Jamiu and five others in connection with the death of Sulaiman Riliwan. Similarly, the disappearance of Olarewaju led to the arrest of Soliu Mojeeb Olarewaju, a close associate, who allegedly confessed to the killing. The command also tackled cult-related violence in Ilorin, arresting Oluwafemi Bukoye, Isreal Ogungbile, and Adesoye Abdulwarith, members of the Buccaneer Confraternity. Investigations into illegal firearms supply led to the arrest of Dayo Sesan and Ismail Abdulmalik, both linked to the Aiye Confraternity, and the recovery of locally made pistols.
