OCP and CHS plan $450 million phosphate fertilizer plant in the United States

This project, with an investment potentially reaching $450 million, is expected to have a capacity exceeding one million tons per year. It would be the first facility of its kind constructed in the United States since 1984. The new unit will be located within the Cornerstone Energy Park in Waggaman, Louisiana.

OCP Group will supply the phosphoric acid required for production, leveraging its expertise and resources in phosphates. The finished products will be marketed by OCP North America and CHS through their respective distribution networks, serving American farmers, cooperatives, and distributors. This partnership aims to bring fertilizer production closer to American farmers and enhance the resilience of supply chains.

Kevin Kimm, CEO of OCP North America, stated that the project is a significant step in OCP North America's commitment to American agriculture, aiming to build sustainable infrastructure for US food security and reliable supply of US-produced fertilization solutions. Jay Debertin, President and CEO of CHS, noted the project's importance for American agriculture, believing it will create more value for cooperative members by localizing fertilizer production. The United States currently imports about 40% of its phosphate-based fertilizers.
