Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin accused of personal interest in former Chief Justice Torkornoo's removal
Private legal practitioner Thaddeus Sory has alleged that Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin's outrage over the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo stemmed from a "personal interest." Speaking on the KSM Show on August 19, 2026, Sory claimed that Afenyo-Markin was protecting a "huge" contract he had with the Judicial Service, from which he was receiving commercial profits. Sory asserted that Afenyo-Markin made it appear as though his opposition to the nomination process was based on national public interest, but that it was instead driven by his personal stake in Torkornoo remaining in office. He further alleged that Afenyo-Markin misled members of his caucus into believing he was championing their collective interest, when in fact, he was pursuing his own.
