Northern Yoruba leaders urge Tinubu to intensify poverty alleviation efforts

Alhaji Murtala Adeleke, the group's chairman, made this appeal after a quarterly meeting in Abuja. While acknowledging that economic reforms require patience, Adeleke urged the Federal Government to ensure that the benefits of democracy reach citizens at the grassroots. He also noted that local government administrations have not yet fulfilled their statutory responsibilities despite recent approval of their financial autonomy.

Despite these concerns, the association expressed support for the Tinubu administration, citing improvements in security, education, fuel supply, and the economy over the past three years. Adeleke highlighted notable improvements in security, particularly in the North, and praised the government's student financing initiatives and efforts to curb university strikes. He also claimed significant growth in the capital market and credited the government with ending fuel scarcity, which had previously led to high black-market prices in the North.
