Nigeria's humanitarian funding increases by $17.9 million in two months

This rise has positioned Nigeria as the highest-funded among eight crisis-affected countries tracked by the UN in West and Central Africa, surpassing the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As of August 10, 2026, Nigeria had received a total of $265.2 million in humanitarian funding, with $257.9 million channeled through its Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan and $7.3 million from other sources. This represents a 7.2 percent increase from the $247.3 million received by June 22, 2026.

The Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan coverage rate for Nigeria reached 50 percent of its $516.4 million 2026 requirement, leaving an unmet gap of $258.5 million. The Democratic Republic of the Congo's coverage rate, which was 53 percent in June, decreased to 47 percent. Other countries in the region, such as the Central African Republic, Chad, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Mali, and Niger, have lower coverage rates for their respective humanitarian requirements.

Regionally, West and Central Africa's eight response plans have collectively received $2.55 billion against a combined requirement of $6.13 billion, resulting in a 36 percent coverage rate and an unmet need of $3.92 billion.
