Arewa Consultative Forum condemns military airstrike, demands compensation for victims

The Arewa Consultative Forum ACF has condemned a military airstrike that reportedly killed at least 30 people at a weekly market in Jilli Village, along the Borno–Yobe border. The ACF National Publicity Secretary, Tukur Muhammad-Baba, described the incident as deeply troubling and expressed concern over repeated targeting of civilians during military operations. He noted that this was not an isolated case, citing previous airstrikes with civilian casualties, and attributed the recurrence to lapses in operational diligence and intelligence gathering by the military. Muhammad-Baba stated that no military personnel had been sanctioned in connection with similar incidents, which he called unacceptable. While supporting the armed forces' fight against terrorism, he condemned the repeated "so-called mistakes" and called on the Federal Government to go beyond condemnations. The ACF demands full compensation for the victims' families, adequate medical care for the injured, and accountability for those responsible, warning that failure to act decisively would reinforce a culture of impunity.
