Nigerian students issue ultimatum to Ogun State government over abductions and campus insecurity

The demands include the rescue of five abducted students from Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, and the arrest of those responsible for the killing of a D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic student. NANS Secretary-General, Oladimeji Uthman, stated that students in Ogun's tertiary institutions live in fear due to persistent kidnappings, armed robberies, cult violence, and other criminal activities. He warned that NANS would initiate peaceful protests across the state if the demands are not met within the stipulated period.

NANS also called for a high-powered delegation to condole with the family of the deceased student, Ahmed Sekinat, and visit another student recovering from gunshot injuries. Uthman highlighted that previous attempts to engage security agencies through strategic meetings were unsuccessful. While commending the Inspector-General of Police and Ogun State Governor for deploying an operational police aircraft, NANS stressed the need for more decisive action.

To improve security, NANS proposed increased patrols, permanent security posts in vulnerable student communities, deployment of the Ogun State Anti-Violent Crime Team to tertiary institutions, stronger collaboration among stakeholders, and the creation of an Ogun Security Agencies–Student Leaders Relations Forum. The ultimatum
