Cameroon defeats Nigeria 1-0 in WAFCON quarter-final, advances to semi-finals
Cameroon's Indomitable Lionesses secured a spot in the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations WAFCON semi-finals by defeating defending champions Nigeria 1-0 in their quarter-final match in Casablanca. Myriam Ma茅va Nyadjou Wamen scored the decisive goal in the 19th minute at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium. Despite Nigeria's efforts to equalize, including a strong second-half push and a close-range save by Cameroon's goalkeeper, they were unable to breach Cameroon's defense. This defeat ends Nigeria's title defense and their bid for an automatic qualification ticket to the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil, which is reserved for WAFCON semi-finalists. Nigeria, who had dominated previous WAFCON encounters with Cameroon and were seeking a record 10th Women's World Cup appearance, will not advance. Cameroon will now face Morocco in the semi-finals, following Morocco's 2-1 victory over South Africa.
