Kano to host 2026 President Bola Tinubu Renewed Hope Cup in September
Kano State will host the 2026 President Bola Tinubu Renewed Hope Cup in September, a two-week football tournament featuring teams from the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory. Organized in partnership with the Nigeria Football Federation, the competition, dubbed "The Game Changer," aims to promote youth development, grassroots football, peace, and social integration across Northern Nigeria. Sani Musa-Danja, Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Sports and Youth Development, announced on Monday that the tournament will engage youth in productive activities, discourage social vices, and foster peaceful coexistence. Governor Abba Yusuf supports the initiative due to his administration's commitment to youth development and sports. The tournament will also provide a platform for young footballers to showcase their talents to scouts and academies. Abdulgafar Oladimeji, Technical Director, stated that the event seeks to build the capacity of players, coaches, and other grassroots football personnel, identify new talents, and contribute to peace and economic activities in Kano. The competition, designed to project the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda, will conclude with a final at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium. Winners will receive N10m, with N5m and N2m for second and third place, respectively, to reward excellence and strengthen community relationships.
