Nigeria Governors' Forum backs creation of four new Army divisions and 28,000 military recruitments

The Nigeria Governors' Forum NGF has endorsed President Bola Tinubu's approval for the creation of four new Nigerian Army divisions and the recruitment of 28,000 additional military personnel. In a statement signed by its Chairman and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the NGF described the expansion as the largest single in the Nigerian Army's modern history, reflecting the President's commitment to safeguarding lives and property. The forum expressed confidence that these measures, along with the acquisition of more military equipment, will strengthen ongoing efforts against terrorism and banditry. The NGF pledged continued collaboration with the Federal Government on security and other national development priorities, and urged Nigerians to support security agencies with credible and timely information. President Tinubu's approval expands the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions, aiming to decentralize military command, improve border security, and strengthen responses to security threats. New divisional headquarters will be established in Makurdi, Ilorin, Jalingo, and Benin City, with implementation expected to be completed between September and December 2026.
