Delta State Governor urges new Army GOC to enhance Niger Delta security
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has tasked Major General Everest Okoro, the newly appointed General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, to bolster security operations across the Niger Delta. Governor Oborevwori emphasized that economic growth is dependent on the safety of lives, businesses, and critical assets. He made these remarks during a courtesy visit from Major General Okoro, who also serves as the Land Component Commander of the Joint Task Force South-South, Operation Delta Safe, at Government House, Asaba. The Governor highlighted that maintaining peace in the Niger Delta is crucial not only for security but also for economic reasons, especially since Delta State is a major oil-producing region in Nigeria. He stressed the importance of protecting oil and gas facilities, waterways, businesses, and other vital infrastructure to sustain economic activities and attract investments. Governor Oborevwori congratulated Major General Okoro on his appointment, describing the 6 Division as a strategic military formation responsible for peace and economic asset protection. He assured the new Army commander of his administration's continued support for the military and other security agencies, including providing infrastructure and logistics. Governor Oborevwori also mentioned his administration's recent construction of one-unit flats at the Amphibious Army Barracks in Agbor and logistical support to the 63 Brigade.
