Sammy Gyamfi challenges Afenyo-Markin's defamation suit, citing defects
Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board and National Communications Officer of the ruling National Democratic Congress, has filed a motion to set aside a defamation suit brought against him by Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu. Gyamfi, through his lawyers Ayine & Partners, argues that Afenyo-Markin's suit is "incurably defective and incompetent." This action follows Gyamfi's formal authorization for his lawyers to accept service of the writ. Afenyo-Markin had announced on August 24, 2026, that he was suing Gyamfi and three others, including Eric Adjei, Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, over alleged defamatory statements, accusing them of making comments that labeled him an "extortionist." Afenyo-Markin specified two separate suits: one against Samuel Adu Gyamfi and Multimedia Group Limited at the Accra High Court, and another against Eric Adjei and Peace FM at the Achimota Circuit Court.
