
President Nandi-Ndaitwah advocates for mining-led growth and job creation in Namibia
Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia, addressed the 13th Chamber of Mines Mining Expo and Conference in Windhoek, emphasizing the mining sector's crucial role in achieving Vision 2030. She highlighted the industry's contributions to economic growth, investment, exports, and government revenue, noting a 14% GDP contribution and N$7.8 billion in taxes in 2025. The President called for a shift from dialogue to implementation, assessing progress since the 2025 launch of Namibia鈥檚 Public-Private Forum NamPPF. She mentioned commissioning three Presidential Task Forces in December 2025 for Health, Economic Recovery, and Land and Housing, with ministries now implementing their recommendations. The Expo, which has grown to 222 exhibitors, including 198 local, 18 SADC, and 6 international companies, serves as a platform for investment opportunities, partnerships, and youth empowerment in the mining sector. President Nandi-Ndaitwah stressed the Eighth Administration's objective of creating 500,000 jobs, with the mining sector targeted to create over 18,000 direct jobs and facilitate US$2.865 billion in new investment. She urged the sector to prioritize value addition, local beneficiation, and employee empowerment, while also emphasizing occupational health and safety, advocating for the finalization of the Occupational Health and Safety Bill and the establishment of health and safety centers.
