Namibian youth demand action on promises, citing policy implementation failures

Benhard Kavau, Students Union of Namibia board chairperson, stated that while Namibia possesses sound youth policies, their implementation falls short, citing unfulfilled pledges regarding sports infrastructure. He noted that despite promises for at least seven sports fields, little progress has been made. Annelien van Wyk, senior youth officer in the ǁKharas region for the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture, acknowledged progress in creating youth participation platforms but questioned the actual impact of youth input on decisions.

Van Wyk identified unemployment and socioeconomic barriers to labor market entry as primary challenges for young people. Youth advocate and University of Namibia law student Ndayola Mulongeni highlighted that while engagement platforms are increasing, participation remains limited to a select few, emphasizing the need for broader inclusion, especially for youth outside the Khomas region.
