Lawyer Angela Mulwa re-arrested, faces murder charges with mother and brother in Victoria Mutiso case
Lawyer Angela Mulwa has been re-arrested at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi and formally charged with murder in connection with the death of Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso. A charge sheet filed at the High Court names Angela Mulwa, her mother Rose Mbithe Mulwa, and her brother Chris Mulwa as the accused. The prosecution alleges they, along with others, murdered Dr. Mutiso on July 29, along Mawensi Road in Kilimani, Nairobi county. Mulwa had previously been in police custody while the Directorate of Criminal Investigations investigated Mutiso's death. A magistrate's court had dismissed the Director of Public Prosecutions' application to extend Mulwa's detention. Following this, the prosecution filed a murder charge directly at the High Court. The earlier miscellaneous criminal application for Mulwa's detention was subsequently withdrawn and closed. Mulwa, Mbithe, and Chris are expected to be formally arraigned at the High Court on Tuesday. Investigators believe Dr. Mutiso, a prominent doctor and researcher, was shot dead by men on a motorbike over a land matter, and she had reported threats to her life two weeks prior to her murder.
