Motsepe states Infantino's future should be decided by election

This statement comes as Infantino faces significant criticism, particularly after his proposal to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors. European football's governing body UEFA, along with Concacaf and AFC, have expressed a lack of trust in Infantino, suggesting he resign before seeking re-election in March next year. Motsepe, who is also a FIFA vice-president, emphasized the importance of following FIFA's electoral process, stating that the 211 member associations should decide Infantino's fate through a vote.

He held talks with UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin, whose organization has threatened to boycott the World Cup and Club World Cup in protest of Infantino's scheme. CAF had previously supported Infantino, and Motsepe noted that Infantino had apologized for the way the proposals were handled, acknowledging that there might have been a better approach. The Football Association of Ireland FAI recently withdrew its support for Infantino, citing concerns over governance, transparency, and consultation, following similar actions by the English FA and Welsh FA.
