Identity of officers involved in Alex Kiprotich abduction emerges
Kenyan national dailies on Thursday, September 3, reported on the abduction of Standard Group associate editor Alex Kiprotich. The Standard confirmed that the Subaru vehicle with registration number KDG 125E, used in the abduction, belongs to the Kenya Police, despite an entry in the National Transport and Safety Authority portal indicating the number belongs to a Honda registered to Alex Maundu. One officer involved, Corporal Ronald Chemosit, serves in the Operations Support Unit OSU under the Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI. This unit, formed in late 2022 after the disbandment of the Special Support Unit, was reportedly created to target armed criminals but has since shifted focus to government critics. Sources claim these junior officers report directly to DCI boss Amin and a State House operative, not even the Assistant Inspector General. The unit is allegedly run by Zacharia Kariuki, a retired officer on a contract until August 2027.
