Arsenal signs Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United
Arsenal announced on Saturday the signing of Brazil international midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United on a long-term contract. The 28-year-old joins Arsenal after four-and-a-half seasons at Newcastle, where he made nearly 200 appearances and contributed to the club's Carabao Cup triumph in 2025. Guimaraes also helped Newcastle qualify for the UEFA Champions League in two seasons. His professional career began with Audax in 2015, followed by a move to Athletico Paranaense, then French side Lyon, before joining Newcastle in January 2022. He has made 48 appearances for Brazil, participating in the recent FIFA World Cup and Copa America, and winning a gold medal at the 2020 Olympic Games. Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta stated that Guimaraes, who can play as a defensive midfielder or in a box-to-box role, will strengthen the club's midfield, providing leadership, competition, and additional options for manager Mikel Arteta. Guimaraes will wear the number 39 shirt and join his new teammates immediately, pending the completion of regulatory processes.
