Franchise model gains traction in Morocco despite information and financing challenges

A national barometer by Wefranchiz reveals that 43.1% of project initiators in Morocco are ready to launch a franchise project, with an additional 37.9% open to the idea. This growing interest is driven by the perceived security and support offered by the franchise model, which combines independence with a structured entrepreneurial framework. Respondents highlighted brand recognition and support as key advantages, and 81.8% believe franchising contributes to job creation in Morocco. However, significant obstacles remain, including a lack of access to information, cited by 33.9% as a major hindrance, and financing difficulties, which 58.3% identified as the primary barrier. Over 63.5% of respondents have never consulted a specialized franchise platform, indicating a deficit in market visibility. The study also found that 34.7% of respondents could not estimate the budget needed for a franchise. Preferred sectors for investment include catering 29.9%, services 28.5%, and beauty 19.2%. While 49.3% are interested in international franchises, 47.7% show comparable interest in Moroccan brands, with 85.4% believing local brands have franchise potential. Wefranchiz aims to facilitate connections between franchisors and project initiators through an AI-based platform, addressing the need for structured support and information in a maturing market.
