Minister Ntshavheni discusses GNU stability, Nepal floods, and South Africa hosting WEF in 2028
Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni affirmed the stability of the government of national unity GNU despite ongoing political campaigning ahead of the November 2026 elections. She stated that the South African Police Service SAPS operational decision-makers are handling election security, including the protection of councillors, without political interference. Ntshavheni also provided an update on the situation in Nepal, where at least six South Africans are missing due to floods, noting that the government is working with regional authorities. She welcomed South Africa's inclusion in the extended African Growth and Opportunity Act and a trade deal with India for the citrus industry. Additionally, the South African government is preparing to register a new tuberculosis vaccine pending successful phase three trials. Ntshavheni highlighted Eskom's reduced expenditure on diesel for open gas turbines and confirmed that South Africa will host the World Economic Forum special meeting in Cape Town from March 27 to 31, 2028, marking the first time the WEF Spring Davos will be held in the country.
