Member of "12th Gaïndé" recounts violence at football final in Morocco

El Hadji Ndongo Hann, a member of the "12th Gaïndé" fan group, has spoken out about the violence that occurred during a football final in Morocco. He stated that nothing foreshadowed the events, which began with suspicious behavior from Moroccan ball boys near Édouard Mendy's goal. One ball boy reportedly entered the goal to retrieve an object. Tensions escalated when ball boys attempted to take towels from the Senegalese goalkeeper, leading to Yehvann Diouf being violently assaulted when he intervened. Senegalese supporters claim they were severely repressed, with a steward striking a supporter and throwing a chair. El Hadji Ndongo also alleged that Moroccan law enforcement supported the stewards, beating and dragging supporters who were calling for calm. The situation became uncontrollable after Ismaïla Sarr's disallowed goal, at which point law enforcement, including hooded police officers, intervened forcefully in the stands. El Hadji Ndongo himself reported being beaten and dragged. Despite Senegal's victory with a goal from Pape Gueye, supporters chose not to celebrate upon their return to AIBD in solidarity with 18 Senegalese still detained in Morocco.
