EU approves €1.5 billion installment for Egypt

The European Commission approved the disbursement of the second €1.5 billion installment to Egypt on July 24, 2026, as announced by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This transfer completes the €5 billion allocated to Egypt under the Macro-Financial Assistance program. The first installment of the second tranche, amounting to €1 billion, was disbursed in January 2026, following an initial €1 billion first tranche released in 2024. This decision is part of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Egypt and the European Union, established in March 2024, and reflects the strong relationship and progress in cooperation between the two sides. The ministry stated that the partnership supports Egypt's efforts towards economic stability and sustainable development, and highlights the EU's confidence in Egypt's role in promoting regional security and stability in the Middle East, southern Mediterranean, and Africa. Egypt has been actively engaging with EU institutions to secure support for the political, economic, and security aspects of this partnership.
