Instagram introduces new label for AI-generated profiles
Instagram is enhancing its transparency policy regarding artificial intelligence by replacing the "Creator with AI" label with "AI-generated profile." This change aims to help users more clearly identify accounts that represent artificially created profiles rather than human beings. This evolution comes as AI-generated content becomes increasingly prevalent on social networks. Meta, Instagram's parent company, explained that this decision is based on feedback from the testing phase of the previous label, addressing users' desire to distinguish between real people and AI-generated characters. The new label specifically targets profiles where the person themselves is AI-generated, not creators who occasionally use AI tools in their creative process. If a profile represents an AI-generated person, its creator must activate the "AI-generated profile" tag, which will appear on the profile and potentially alongside content. Instagram also stated that it might limit the reach of AI-generated profiles if they are not properly labeled. Accounts affected will receive a notification and can check their "Account Status" to see if they are no longer eligible for recommendations.
