Mamoudou Ibra Kane condemns excessive nationalism and xenophobia against Guineans in Senegal

He denounced what he described as excessive nationalism and xenophobic behavior, highlighting the historical ties between Senegal and Guinea. Kane expressed his dismay at the animosity from some Senegalese towards Guineans, stating that such attitudes stem from extreme nationalism. He emphasized that "politics does not allow everything" and "the end does not justify all means," suggesting that those promoting such discourse are ignorant of the shared history and geography of the two nations.

Kane further compared the rise of xenophobia in Senegal to the violence against foreign nationals in South Africa, noting that this behavior dangerously rivals that of Black South Africans who organize pogroms against fellow Africans. He recalled the sacrifices made during the anti-apartheid struggle, asserting that these values of African solidarity should not be forgotten, and remarked, "Madiba is turning in his grave," referring to Nelson Mandela.
