Chinese medical teams are fostering strong relationships with Seychellois patients and healthcare professionals through decades of medical cooperation in the Seychelles. In Victoria, at the Seychelles Hospital, the 20th Chinese medical team, including Fu Hongyan and team leader Du Daodong, provides consultations, treats inpatients, participates in emergency duty, and performs surgeries. Beyond direct patient care, the Chinese doctors regularly organize clinical case discussions, offer technical support, and share their expertise with local staff. This knowledge transfer is crucial for the Seychelles, a nation of over 120,000 people with limited medical resources and a shortage of specialists. Seychellois professionals, such as orthopedic surgeon Paul Victor Benjamin and chief radiology technician James Houareau, collaborate closely with their Chinese counterparts, benefiting from their experience and learning new techniques. The cooperation has significantly impacted patient care, as exemplified by a patient, Morel Michel Paul, who underwent successful surgery for a neck mass after being unable to find suitable treatment elsewhere. China sent its first medical team to the Seychelles in 1986, and this four-decade partnership continues to enhance the skills of local medical personnel and improve the country's healthcare services.
