Western Libya experiences widespread power outage after Zawia Power Station technical fault
Most of western Libya experienced a total electricity blackout last night after the Zawia Power Station suffered a technical fault, according to the General Electricity Company of Libya GECOL. While social media reports suggested an explosion, GECOL personnel clarified there was no military attack. GECOL quickly issued a statement indicating that power was being gradually restored to the western grid, with several areas reporting some power return. The company stated that specialized technical teams are investigating the causes of an explosion at the Al-Harsha power station and are working to determine the technical circumstances. GECOL reassured citizens that efforts to address the outage are underway, with power restoration already in progress, and expects supply to return to normal shortly. The company apologized for the disruption and affirmed its teams will continue working until the network is fully stabilized.
