Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu highlights Tinubu's congratulatory call to Adeleke as evidence of Nigeria's growing democracy

Speaking at the seventh annual Freedom Online lecture, Sanwo-Olu noted that despite the APC candidate losing to Adeleke, Tinubu did not contest the outcome. Instead, he congratulated Adeleke the next day and urged him to unite the state, also thanking INEC and security agencies for a peaceful and transparent election. Sanwo-Olu mentioned that Adeleke publicly acknowledged Tinubu's role in ensuring a level playing field.

The Lagos governor emphasized the significance of a ruling party losing an election in the South-West without federal intervention to overturn the results, contrasting it with past uses of "federal might." Sanwo-Olu described Tinubu as a lifelong democrat committed to leaving a stronger democratic system for Nigeria and as an example for the continent.
