UK raises concerns over West Bank conflict's impact on Palestinian children at UN
The United Kingdom has expressed concern at the United Nations regarding the escalating violence in the West Bank, highlighting the severe impact on Palestinian children who face repeated violence, displacement, and educational disruption. The UK condemned the demolition of donor-funded classrooms at Sha鈥檃b al Butum School and called on the Government of Israel to protect the Palestinian population. Citing a UN report, the UK noted over 1,300 settler-related incidents, with 900 Palestinians injured and more than 3,200 displaced this year. The UK also condemned attacks by Israeli settlers, sometimes alongside Israeli Defense Force personnel, and urged more action to prevent and prosecute such violence. On Gaza, the UK called for an end to humanitarian aid restrictions and welcomed efforts to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2803. The UK reiterated that settlements are illegal under international law, undermine a two-state solution, and fuel insecurity. It also expressed alarm over incursions at the Haram al Sharif / Temple Mount, emphasizing the need to respect the status quo. The UK affirmed that a two-state solution remains the only credible path to lasting peace and security.
